Important Information from the Board regarding the future of Ambulance Service

March 11, 2026

The Town of Charlestown has been notified that its current ambulance service provider has elected not to renew its contract with the Town upon expiration, March 31, 2026.

This decision was made by the vendor following recent public statements made to residents regarding their service and operations. The provider has indicated that, as a result of those statements and the circumstances that followed, it will not continue service under a renewed agreement.

\ Residents should be aware: • The transition of emergency medical services is complex and cannot occur immediately. Licensing, staffing, equipment acquisition, and regulatory compliance requirements take time.

• Costs for future ambulance service are expected to increase. The Town will be required to secure services in a competitive and financially challenging environment.

• There is no immediate replacement ready to assume operations at the expiration of the current contract.

Coverage may be provided through mutual aid and neighboring jurisdictions, as available, while the Town works to secure a new long-term plan. The Town will initiate a formal procurement process and provide updates as more information becomes available. Ensuring continued emergency response coverage remains the priority.
